San Diego Memorial Day Weekend Senior Baseball Tournament

San Diego Memorial Day Weekend Senior Baseball Tournament After a Covid-caused interruption in 2020-2021, the 10th Annual San Diego Memorial Day Weekend Senior Baseball Tournament will be played again on North County San Diego’s most beautiful baseball fields May 28-30, 2022. We currently plan to play on the same diamonds as recent prior years, Carlsbad High School, Escondido High School, Palomar College, UCSD and probably one more field TBD. It’s a wood bat tournament for 60+, 65+ and 70+ divisions with no age waivers. Participants from all over the western region consistently rate our tournament their favorite for players and families due to the food, weather and camaraderie. Missing a Good Man by Thomas Shess

Joe Maiden (1939-2020) died last week. To his family, friends and those in amateur senior baseball circles, he was a charismatic leader who didn’t seek the spotlight. His satisfaction came from helping those he worked with and competed against to be better at what they did. Joe was a financial advisor for retired pilots. His colleagues trusted Joe with their life savings. He was an American Airlines pilot for 33 years and people trusted Joe with their lives getting from point a to point b safely. He was U.S. Naval Academy grad (1961) and a combat pilot with the United States Marines serving under fire in Vietnam. Our nation trusted Joe to keep us free. Gary “Doc” Shima

The North County MSBL family mourns the passing of longtime member Gary “Doc” Shima (9/18/1940 – 8/18/2019). Doc was well respected and admired by all. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gary’s family, friends and teammates. Services have been scheduled for Sunday, Sept 15th, at 2:00 pm at the Clairemont Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 4125 Hathaway St., San Diego 92111
